Universal Studios Singapore Update as of 31st December 2009

Battlestar Galactica Test Ride (Universal Studios Singapore)

Test rides have started on the Battlestar Galactica ride at Universal Studios Singapore. Water dummies are being put in the cars to test the weight load. The ride being tested here is the Human Coaster, the seated one, on red tracks.

Battlestar Galactica in Universal Studios Singapore

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” – Arthur C. Clarke
It was said that good things come in small packages. And some say that they come in pairs. That’s definitely true for USS Sci-Fi City. Arguably one of the smaller zones in USS, Sci-Fi City currently boasts of two attractions – the Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and the Accelerator – due to be opened early 2010 (with another one planned to debut the year after). Not only that, the BSG are duelling coasters and currently the tallest pair in the world.

As a brand new attraction based around the TV series of the same name, the BSG dueling coasters claims many titles. It is the world’s tallest pair of dueling coasters. With both a red conventional coaster signifying the Humans and a blue suspended coaster signifying the Cylons, they will be a pair of the most thrilling rides in USS. With all the twists and turns of the tracks, my legs get all jelly-like just by looking at it. Well it will definitely be in my USS to-do list, that’s for sure! And please, you do not want to puke into the lagoon.

Equarius Water Park (Universal Studios Singapore)

Equarius Water Park is a development within Resorts World Sentosa close to Universal Studios Singapore. I love the idea of waterslides meandering through untouched trees in a real jungle.

The highlight at Equarius Water Park, the water theme park at Resorts World at Sentosa, is the "Water coaster" - a thrilling water slide that takes thrill-seekers on a wet and wild ride through tree tops and jungle greenery; "Snakes and Ladders" where water cannons defy gravity and a surf pool that offers a variety of wave types for novice and serious surfers. Visitors who prefer to stay dry can explore a tree-top adventure course of walkways, rope bridges and jungle pavilions beneath the verdant forest.

Beyonce is coming at Singapore's F1

SINGAPORE : Some of the world's hottest music acts will go full throttle to entertain Formula One's glamour set this weekend as Singapore works to build on the success of its inaugural Grand Prix.

Last year's race was a sell-out but in tough economic times ticket sales this year have been slower.

To boost the off-track experience and pull in punters, organisers have spent big on a star-laden party.

Superstar Beyonce headlines the three-day F1 Rocks Singapore festival at Fort Canning Park, also featuring No Doubt, Black Eyed Peas, Travis, Simple Minds, ZZ Top, and Chaka Khan.

Hollywood starlet and paparazzi magnet Lindsay Lohan will host the event, local reports said.

She stepped in after Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger pulled out after reportedly splitting with her driver boyfriend Lewis Hamilton.

Inside the Marina Bay street circuit, the Backstreet Boys and a host of top deejays, led by John Digweed, will keep the music pumping long after the Formula One cars have driven back to the pits.

The drivers have their own exclusive party at the Official Formula 1 Lounge, hosted by European socialite and TV presenter Tamara Ecclestone, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone's daughter.

Tickets are being sold at a hefty 500 Singapore dollars (354 US) per person, or 12,000 dollars for a VIP table.

"It's about time Singapore had a taste of real Grand Prix glamour and The Official Formula 1 Lounge will enhance the overall appeal of our night race," said Michel Lu, director of the Stereolab dance club that is hosting the event.

Singapore is heavily reliant on tourism and events like the Grand Prix are part of its strategy to boost revenues.

Last year, overseas tourists in town for the race chalked up a total of 168 million Singapore dollars (119 million US) in receipts, according to the Straits Times.

Ezlink Card in Singapore

This is the Ezlink card in Singapore. This is used as a topup card when travelling on bus or mrts. Loaded with extra $$ on it you can use it as payments on Singapore government's immigration center, Ministry of Manpower, and even on McDonalds and others.

Cool ha?

So my advice, DON'T EVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT
or it would be soooo troublesome on your part. Trust me.

What's more, I just found out it's more expensive to pay cash on mrts/ buses than using this card.

I will say it again, it's the EZLink card!

No Smoking In Singapore

Beware!
Singapore is into healthy and fresh living and is consistent in their "No Smoking" campaign.
If you're a smoker in here you must find out which area allows you to puff out that smoke LEGALLY.
If caught, be ready to shell out that extra few $$$ as a lesson. :)

Singapore for Dummies #01

What I love in travelling here Singapore is the Toilets.
Yep. as in cr or comfort rooms.
In here you are pampered with unlimited free tissues and handsoaps.
May it be on mrt stations and of course malls.
But
on hawkers and foodcourts, you need to prepare your extra 30 or 60cents because
they don't just give it away like that. I wonder why.

Watch out for more tips on Singapore living and lifestyle on my next post.
